ONE•TWO•THREE•FOUR - My interest with this work began after discovering that numbers themselves were not used in any of the written scriptures within the old and new testaments of the bible. Anything numeric was spelled out in full.  In fact, numbers were not in existence until 400 years after the birth of Christ when mathematicians from India developed numerals for their research. So, how did people count in Bible days? They used the “tally system”. One, two, three, four scratches (that is as many as the eye can take in and separate easily) ...then cross them out. That indicates a total of five. A second group of five, and you have a “set” of ten. Conveniently, that matches the number of fingers and thumbs of two hands. 

With all this research in mind and like in the days when Christ walked this earth, my goal was to work with a very simplified numeric concept that was based on this tally system from a time past as a way to examine a new world of complexity with a modern twist. Also, to express a beautiful musicality to numeric sequentialisms of our time while paying 
homage to the past.  Numeracy now guides our daily path, from counting the minutes left in our work day, or the time to get from one destination to the next, passwords to enter our online accounts, and remembering our address to where we live. Numbers, in any form weather scratched or recorded digitally, form diverse entry points into many of life’s most important necessities guiding every decision we make.   

Assembly Methodology & Materials: 

•Conceptualized with 3D vector design in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop including superimposed photographic and hand generated elements. 
•Structural Matrix fabricated from various interlocking wood and plastic parts.
•Printmedia created using both digital large format print and offset lithography - including found then modified printed matter.
•This particular work also employs mixed media elements such as plastic, aluminum, copper and steel.
